Short answer: because on Steam, the name is the marketing. Five separate games now carry the words “Tidy Up Together” in their Steam titles, and they come from three different studios. None of them is a sequel to the others. The phrase is not a series — it is a search term that worked, and everyone attached themselves to it.
The five games
A Steam store search for “Tidy Up Together” returns six entries: five games and one demo. Every figure below is the Steam list price and the Steam release date, checked on 20 September 2026.
| Game | Studio | Released | List price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tidy Up Together | Malum Games | 14 August 2026 | $5.99 |
| TV Archive: Tidy Up Together | Games Together | 14 August 2026 | $4.99 |
| Mall: Tidy Up Together | Games Together | 21 August 2026 | $4.99 |
| Megastore: Tidy Up Together | Yolo Games Studio | 2 September 2026 | $5.99 |
| Paver: Tidy Up Together | Games Together | 18 September 2026 | $4.99 |
The detail that gives the game away is the first row. Malum Games released the unprefixed Tidy Up Together on 14 August 2026. On that same day, a studio literally named Games Together released TV Archive: Tidy Up Together. Two more followed from the same studio within five weeks, and a third studio, Yolo Games Studio, shipped Megastore in between.
Why the colon does the work
Steam surfaces games two ways that both read the title as text: the store search box, and the recommendation strips that sit under every store page. A title of the form [New word]: [Proven phrase] is legible to both. It matches the proven phrase in search, and it sits next to the proven game in recommendations, while the prefix keeps it a distinct product rather than a confusing duplicate.
This is the store-page equivalent of buying a domain next to a busy one. The studio does not have to build an audience for the phrase “tidy up together” — somebody already did, and the cost of borrowing it is one word and a colon.
The same pattern is already spreading past “Together”
A wider search for “tidy up” shows the convention generalising into [Role or place]: Tidy Up the [Location]!, with four more studios using it:
| Game | Studio | Release |
|---|---|---|
| Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library! | ArtRising | 30 April 2026 |
| DinoBones: Tidy Up the Museum | Indie Souls Studio | 22 September 2026 |
| Museologist: Tidy Up the Museum! | Tobo Games | 25 September 2026 |
| Wand & Order: Tidy up the magic shop! | OnSkull Games | Coming soon |
Two unrelated studios are releasing a game about tidying up a museum three days apart. That is not coordination and it is not theft. It is two teams reading the same store data and arriving at the same title.
The price is the tell
Watch the right-hand column of the first table in release order: $5.99, $4.99, $4.99, $5.99, $4.99. Paver, the newest, is also the only one that launched into a discount, at $4.49.
That flatness matters more than the small numbers. When a phrase starts pulling traffic, the games attached to it stop competing on the phrase and start competing on price, because the phrase is the one thing they no longer have to themselves. A term that supports a $17 shop simulator in its first month supports a $4.99 organiser in its third. Falling prices are what a commoditised search term looks like from the outside.
Are the games actually the same?
No, and this is where the lazy version of this story falls apart. Games Together’s three entries have genuinely different content: TV Archive sorts a media archive, Mall sorts a shopping centre, and Paver asks you to lay 4,064 paving stones across nine shapes to rebuild a plaza, with an optional No-Skill mode that disables every automation and makes you place all of them by hand.
They share a template, a camera and a verb. So do all first-person shooters. What they share that shooters do not is a name.
Three things this does not mean
It does not mean these are asset flips
Each of the five is a working game with its own content and its own review score. Paver entered the Steam 250 seven-day chart at #40 with a score of 7.29 from 155 reviews at 88% positive. A cynical name and a bad game are different problems.
It does not mean anyone broke a rule
Steam does not grant studios ownership of a descriptive phrase, and “tidy up together” describes what all five games do. No trademark claim has been reported by any of the three studios, and we found none on the store pages.
It does not mean we know anyone’s intent
No studio has said publicly that it chose the name for search visibility. The pattern in the release dates and prices is strong, but it is inference from store data, not a quote. Treat it as the most likely reading rather than a confirmed one.
What this means if you are buying
Check the studio name before you buy the sequel to something you liked, because in this family the shared words are the least reliable guide to what you are getting. If you enjoyed Malum Games’ original, the game most like it is not necessarily the one with the most similar title. Read the store page’s own description of the task — sorting a mall, laying pavers, filing an archive — because the task is the actual product.
