This policy explains what IndieForGames collects, why, and what control you have over it. It applies to indieforgames.com.
Who we are
IndieForGames is an independent publication covering indie games, the studios that make them, and tools for game developers. You can reach us through our contact page.
What we collect
Information you give us
When you submit a game, join our newsletter, or contact us, we collect what you provide — typically your name, email address and any details you include. We use it only to respond to you or to send the newsletter you asked for.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting provider and analytics tools record standard technical data: IP address, browser type and version, device type, referring page, pages visited and time spent. This is used to understand which content is useful and to keep the site running.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for or store payment details. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to anyone.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use them for:
- Essential functions — keeping the site working correctly
- Analytics — understanding how visitors use the site, in aggregate
- Advertising — see the section below
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking them may affect how parts of the site function. See our Cookie Policy for more detail.
Advertising and third-party vendors
This site may display advertising served by third-party vendors, including Google.
Google and the DoubleClick DART cookie
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- Alternatively, users can opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.
Other advertising partners
Third-party ad servers or ad networks may use cookies, JavaScript or web beacons in the advertisements and links that appear on IndieForGames. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. These technologies are used to measure advertising effectiveness and to personalise the advertising content you see.
IndieForGames has no access to or control over cookies used by third-party advertisers. We recommend consulting the respective privacy policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information, including their practices and instructions about how to opt out. Our privacy policy does not apply to, and we cannot control the activities of, other advertisers or websites.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links on this site — including links to Steam and other storefronts — may be affiliate links, meaning we could earn a small commission if you make a purchase. This never affects which games we cover or what we say about them. Coverage is not for sale and we do not accept payment for features or reviews.
Third-party services we use
- Google Analytics / Search Console — traffic measurement and search performance
- Hosting provider — server logs and security
- Embedded content — YouTube videos and Steam widgets behave as if you visited those sites directly, and are governed by their own privacy policies
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Ask us to delete your data
- Object to or restrict how we process it
- Withdraw consent for marketing at any time
To exercise any of these, contact us through the contact page. Newsletter emails include an unsubscribe link in every message.
GDPR and CCPA
If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, we process personal data on the basis of legitimate interest (running and improving the site) or your consent (newsletter, cookies). If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion, and we do not sell personal information.
Children
IndieForGames is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention and security
We keep submission and contact information only as long as needed to respond or to maintain records of coverage. Analytics data is retained in aggregate. The site is served over HTTPS, though no method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. The revision date at the top always reflects the current version. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
