Two characters with inverted hazards

Fireboy passes through fire and dies in water; Watergirl is the reverse. The design value is that it makes co-operation structural rather than optional. In most co-op platformers a competent player can carry a weaker one; here every level contains terrain that is simply lethal to one body and free to the other, so neither player can solve a room alone no matter how skilled they are.

Same-device play as the default

Both characters are controlled from one keyboard, with Remote Play Together as the online path. Shared-device co-op has become rare because it is harder to monetise than networked play, but it is the reason this series spread through school computer labs in the first place — the barrier to a second player is a person sitting down, not an account and a download.

A three-way scoring split

Levels grade on completion, time and diamonds collected, and those goals conflict: the diamond route is rarely the fast route. Splitting the score this way is what gives a short level set replay value, and in a two-player game it also gives the pair something to argue about, which is most of the point.

The honest caveat

This is the first chapter of the series, originally a browser game, and it is short. At $0.99 that is a fair trade, but buyers expecting the scope of a modern paid platformer should read it as preservation of a specific 2009-era game rather than an expansion of it.
