Future? No Thanks! is a narrative-driven open-world adventure set in an ecosocialist utopia in 2045. Steam frames the premise as an inversion: climate change is being tackled, democracy thrives, technology serves the public good, and the only problem is you. You play Harvey Huffstone, a grumpy elder on the last day of his life, working through a bucket list before a self-scheduled euthanasia. Steam lists seven non-linear quests over roughly six hours.

Chart credential: Future? No Thanks! debuted at #49 on the Steam 250 seven-day chart for the week of 7 September 2026, with a 6.97 score from 23 reviews at 100% positive, after releasing on 4 September 2026.

Key features

A utopia used as an antagonist

The setting works because the world is genuinely good and the protagonist is genuinely out of place in it. Science fiction games overwhelmingly default to dystopia, and dystopia is dramatically cheap — a broken world justifies any action the player takes. Making the world function forces the conflict inward, so the questions become about the character rather than about what needs shooting.

Seven non-linear quests in about six hours

A bucket list is a structure, not a to-do list: each item is optional and the day ends regardless. That is what makes the non-linearity mean something here, because the constraint is not a difficulty gate but a fixed ending you cannot outrun. Six hours is also short enough that the whole list is legible in one sitting, which a 40-hour open world could not achieve.

An explicitly stated production politics

The store page describes the game as made with locally sourced talent and minimal involvement from capitalists, marketers or profiteers. Whether or not you find that framing persuasive, it is doing real work as consumer information: it tells you the game is arguing for something, which is a genuinely different purchase from one that is not.

The honest caveat

Steam’s content descriptors list implied off-screen sexual activity, conversations about sex, gender and death, depiction of legalized prostitution, depiction of euthanasia, drug and tobacco references, sexual innuendo and mild swearing. Euthanasia is not a background theme here — it is the game’s clock. The 100% positive rating also rests on only 23 reviews, which is too small a sample to treat as settled.
