Features

Elden Ring has multiplayer. It is just not the multiplayer most people want. You summon a friend, you kill a boss, the game politely sends them home, and you do the whole ritual again at the next fog wall.
Seamless Co-op is the mod that deletes that entire ritual, and it is one of the most downloaded mods in the game history. Searches for it are spiking again, so here is what it does, how to set it up, and what it actually breaks.
What the mod changes
The core fix is persistence. Instead of being desummoned after every boss, players stay in the same world together. You explore, die, respawn and keep going without the session resetting.
Practically, that means:
- No re-summoning after every boss kill
- Deaths do not end the session
- You can ride together across the overworld, through caves and legacy dungeons continuously
- Progress keeps moving instead of stopping every fifteen minutes
It turns Elden Ring into the co-op open world people assumed it already was.
How to set it up properly
- Back up your save files first. This is not optional advice. Copy them somewhere outside the game folder before you touch anything.
- Download Seamless Co-op from Nexus Mods.
- Extract the files into your Elden Ring
Gamefolder, whereeldenring.exelives. - Open the config file and set a password that every player in your party uses. This is how you find each other.
- Everyone must be on the same mod version and same game version. Mismatches are the number one cause of connection failures.
- Launch through the mod launcher, not the normal Steam shortcut.
The mod uses separate save files from your normal game, so your solo character is not overwritten.
What to know before you start
Boss health scales, and it hurts
The most common complaint. Enemy and boss HP scales with party size, and early bosses in particular can turn into long grinding fights rather than the tense duels they are designed as.
Invasions are opt-in
Hostile invasions can be enabled or disabled in the config file. They are off by default in recent versions, so if you want them you have to turn them on deliberately.
It is explicitly a beta
The developer states plainly that Elden Ring is enormous and testing every possible route a party might take is impossible. Bugs are expected, and the mod has been rewritten more than once — notably after the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
No compatibility guarantees with other mods
The developer is direct about this too: there is no intrinsic compatibility with other mods, especially overhauls. If they work, good. If not, that is not something Seamless Co-op can fix.
Play offline
Standard practice for any Elden Ring mod. Do not run modded sessions while connected to official servers.
Why this mod matters beyond Elden Ring
Seamless Co-op is the clearest evidence of a gap between what a studio built and what players wanted badly enough to build themselves. A single modder rewrote large portions of the game networking code to deliver a feature the base game deliberately withholds — and hundreds of thousands of people installed it.
That demand is exactly why so many indie developers now build co-op in from the start rather than bolting on a summon system. It is the single most requested feature in modern gaming, and small teams have noticed.
If you want that experience without modding anything
These are built for persistent co-op from the ground up:
- Din’s Champion — a multiplayer action-RPG where the world executes its own plans while you explore, from the Soldak team ($15.99)
- Ironsand — 4-player co-op titan-slaying FPS roguelite ($6.74)
- Inferno Protocol — 6-player survival horror in a maze that rearranges behind you
- SHORE — 1-4 player raft survival against storms and sharks
- Big Walk — co-op built entirely around proximity voice chat, from the Untitled Goose Game studio

Frequently asked questions
What does the Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod do?
It keeps players in the same world persistently instead of desummoning them after each boss or death. You can explore the overworld, caves and legacy dungeons together continuously without repeatedly re-summoning.
Is Seamless Co-op safe to use?
It uses separate save files from your normal game, so your solo character is not overwritten. Back up your saves before installing, and play offline rather than connected to official servers, as with any Elden Ring mod.
Do all players need the same version?
Yes. Everyone must run the same mod version and the same game version, and share the same password set in the config file. Version mismatches are the most common cause of connection problems.
Does Seamless Co-op have invasions?
Yes, but they are opt-in and can be enabled or disabled in the configuration file. Recent versions default to invasions being off.
Why are bosses so hard in Seamless Co-op?
Enemy and boss health scales with party size, which can turn early bosses into extended fights. This is the most frequently reported issue with the mod.
