Mycopunk is a four-player looter shooter whose real game is a grid-based inventory puzzle you solve between missions.
You play a squad of robot rejects hired by the SAXON corporation to exterminate a planet-wide fungal outbreak. The shooting is good. The reason people keep playing is the upgrade grid.
Chart credential: #4 on the Steam 250 weekly chart, scoring 8.40 from 5,031 reviews at 88% positive — the largest review count in this week’s top ten. Released 20 October 2026 by Pigeons at Play, published by Devolver Digital.
Key features
Weapons are built, not found
Every mission drops mods that you slot into a grid attached to each weapon and each robot. Shape matters, space is limited, and stacking is allowed.
This is the difference between Mycopunk and the dozen looter shooters it resembles. In most of them a better gun replaces your gun. Here the gun stays and you rearrange it — which means a drop is interesting because of where it fits, not because of the number printed on it.
Builds are allowed to be stupid
You can spec into healing support, bolt a deflector shield onto a chainsaw, or convert yourself into a bomb. The developers explicitly do not care which, and nothing in the mod system is gated behind a class identity.
Systems like this usually collapse into one optimal build. Mycopunk resists that by making the enemies mutate and weaponise the planet’s technology against you, so the thing that worked last mission is not guaranteed to work in the next biome.
Enemies pick up what other enemies drop
Dismembered enemies leave parts on the field, and other enemies can grab them. Killing something sloppily arms the thing behind it.
That single rule changes how a four-stack fights: you stop spraying and start thinking about where the debris lands, which is a rare thing for a horde shooter to make you care about.
Where it falls short
The 88% rating is the lowest of this week’s top five, and the common complaint is mission variety. The grid system is deep enough to sustain fifty hours; the mission list is not. Expect to see the same objectives rotate long before you have exhausted the builds.
At $7.49 — half price in its launch window — that is an easy recommendation anyway. At full price it is a harder sell for solo players, since the mod economy is tuned around four people feeding each other parts.

Frequently asked questions
Can you play Mycopunk solo?
Yes, it has a single-player mode, but the upgrade economy and mission design are built around a four-player squad and solo runs are noticeably harder to supply.
How many players is Mycopunk?
Up to four in online co-op.
Who published Mycopunk?
Devolver Digital published it. The developer is Pigeons at Play.
How much does Mycopunk cost?
$7.49 at the time of writing, discounted 50% from $14.99.
Is Mycopunk a roguelike?
No. It is a mission-based looter shooter with persistent progression — your mods and robots carry between missions rather than resetting on death.
