Everything you see in Effulgence RPG is built out of text characters arranged into 3D forms — landscapes, creatures, machines and effects, all moving and rotating as solid shapes made of symbols. You control a party of four in turn-based battles, and defeated enemies break apart into particles you collect and feed to a matter printer to build weapons and equipment. You can print mid-battle, which turns the enemies you have already killed into the tools for the next fight. A playthrough runs around five to seven hours.
Chart credential: new entry at #40 on the Steam 250 seven-day chart, scoring 7.00 from 60 reviews. Released 10 September 2026.
Key features
Enemies as currency, not obstacles
Corpses become printable matter. That collapses the usual gap between combat and crafting into one loop, and it changes how you fight: an enemy you overkill is wasted material, so the optimisation problem starts before the last hit lands rather than at a shop screen afterwards.
Printing during a fight
Being able to print equipment mid-battle means a losing encounter can be turned by consuming what you have already killed. Most RPGs make you leave the fight to change your build. Keeping the workbench inside the battle is what gives the system tactical weight instead of being a between-dungeon errand.
A five-to-seven hour RPG that knows it is five to seven hours
The store page states the length up front and calls it a focused adventure. Scoping an RPG deliberately short is a design constraint, not a shortfall: it is why the locations, bosses and mechanics can each be built around their own rule rather than padded out to fill a hundred hours.
