BOMBANANA! is a three-player co-operative bomb disposal game from Lefto Studio, published by TARK. Each player is a monkey missing one sense. The blind monkey can touch the bomb but cannot see it or read a screen. The deaf monkey can see the bomb and the frantic gestures of everyone else, but hears nothing. The mute monkey is the only one holding the defusal manual, and cannot say a word.

The information is split three ways, and that is the whole design

Most co-op games let one competent player quietly carry the other two. BOMBANANA! makes that structurally impossible: no single player can see, read and touch the bomb, so the group has to invent a shared vocabulary under a countdown. The game imposes no method for that. Waving, shouting and throwing bananas are all valid, which is why two groups of the same skill can look nothing alike.

Three modes, one of which does not end

Campaign is 30 handcrafted levels of rising difficulty. Endless is procedurally generated and wave-based. Custom lets players build their own bombs. The endless mode is the one that matters for shelf life — 30 handcrafted levels is a good evening, but a generated wave mode is what turns a party game into something a group returns to.

Exactly three players, no more and no less

This is a real constraint, not a recommendation. The game is built around three specific disabilities, so a fourth friend sits out and two friends cannot start. Groups that play in fours should know that before buying.
