Splitting an FMV story across a character who sees the future and a character who arrived from it means your choices are checked twice. A decision that looks correct in one thread can invalidate what you already watched in the other, which is why the branch count matters more here than in a single-viewpoint FMV.

QTEs used as pacing, not punishment

The quick-time events sit between branch points rather than gating them. That keeps an FMV moving at the speed of video instead of the speed of a menu, which is the usual reason this genre stalls out for players who came for the story.
