Otherside Tapes: Favela is a first-person psychological horror game with a found-footage aesthetic, set in the fictional Favela das Almas. In 2006, content creator and urban explorer Cláudio da Silva enters the community looking for the infamous Street 7, a place tied to disappearances and a fire that destroyed part of the favela years earlier. What starts as an ordinary exploration becomes a loop of distorted realities and ritual offerings.
Steam 250 weekly chart: #29 on the Top 50 Games of the Past Week after the biggest climb on the board, +13 places, scored 7.17 from 48 reviews at 96% positive, released 22 October 2026. Chart position via Steam 250.
Key features
A horror setting that is almost never used
Found-footage horror overwhelmingly reuses the same locations: American suburbs, abandoned hospitals, forests. Setting the loop inside a Brazilian favela gives the camcorder conceit somewhere unfamiliar to point, and the specificity — a real fire, a street with a reputation, an urban explorer chasing views — does more work than any monster design would.
The 2006 camcorder is a mechanical constraint
Shooting the game through period-correct video is not only a filter. A low-resolution viewfinder with a narrow field of view determines how much of a room you can check at once, which means the aesthetic and the difficulty are the same decision rather than two separate ones.
Looping spaces instead of a linear route
The same locations transform around Cláudio rather than giving way to new ones. That keeps the playable area small and lets the game rely on your memory of a room being wrong, which is a cheaper and more reliable scare than building more rooms.
